When Ruby woke up on her tenth birthday, something about her had changed. Something alarming enough to make her parents lock her in the garage and call the police. Something that gets her sent to Thurmond, a brutal government “rehabilitation camp.” She might have survived the mysterious disease that’s killed most of America’s children, but she and the others have emerged with something far worse: frightening abilities they cannot control.

Now sixteen, Ruby is one of the dangerous ones.

When the truth comes out, Ruby barely escapes Thurmond with her life. Now she’s on the run, desperate to find the one safe haven left for kids like her—East River. She joins a group of kids who escaped their own camp. Liam, their brave leader, is falling hard for Ruby. But no matter how much she aches for him, Ruby can’t risk getting close. Not after what happened to her parents.

When they arrive at East River, nothing is as it seems, least of all its mysterious leader. But there are other forces at work, people who will stop at nothing to use Ruby in their fight against the government. Ruby will be faced with a terrible choice, one that may mean giving up her only chance at a life worth living.

- Goodreads.com description

I saw a review on Goodreads about this book being so absolutely incredible - and with my extreme love for good dystopian books in these past months - I decided to give it a try. I absolutely wasn't disappointed. This book is made of awesome. The world that Alexandra Bracken created in so incredibly awesome, that deep down - even though the society repressed the kids with powers - I wish it was real.

Ruby is such an amazing character. Her mind is very interesting and different from other characters we are so used to in YA. At first she is so scared of everything, that saying, everything she actually can do. But she gets confident trough the book and I loved that. Sometimes she made some bad decisions who to really trust - but lets face it, don't we all at one point?

Liam. This guy is one of the sweetest guys ever. And so brave and intelligent. I really, really liked him. And he genuinely cared for Ruby and he was honest about it. Which I loved even more. No twisted games or anything.

The writing was so good. The setting of the story was also very good. And the powers that were divided by colours - totally genius! Greens were the smart ones. Yellow were the ones connected with electricity. The Red were incredibly dangerous and connected with the fire. The Blue were able to move objects around. And the Oranges were able to control minds. Freaking amazing I'm telling you!

The Darkest Minds is an incredible dystopian book, which will leave you craving for more of it. There is a sequel to it - which I am so eager to get my hands on! So, if you're searching for a great dystopian story, filled with a strong female character, great setting and all mixed with a sweet romance, The Darkest Minds is the perfect book for you!
